What are the opening hours?
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Phone enquiries are answered from 8:30am to 5pm.
How do I contact it?
Email glasgowet@justice.gov.uk or call 0141 204 0730. Both are the employment tribunal contacts at the Glasgow Tribunals Centre.
Is employment tribunal procedure different in Scotland?
Scotland has its own employment tribunals, but the procedure rules are the same as in England and Wales: the Employment Tribunal Procedure Rules 2024.
Do I need to contact Acas first in Scotland?
Yes, for almost all claims. There must have been an attempt at conciliation through the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) before you bring a claim.
How do I make a claim?
After Acas early conciliation, you make your claim online on GOV.UK. Your acknowledgement letter will say which office is handling it.

What to expect on the day
- There is disabled access. If you have a disability and need help coming to a hearing, contact the tribunal beforehand.
- You and your bags will be searched on entry, through a security arch. Tell the security officer if you have a pacemaker.
- Toilets and an accessible toilet are available.
- There is a vending machine in the waiting room, and spare rooms are available.
- Portable hearing loops and video conferencing facilities are available.
- Assistance dogs are welcome.
How Scottish hearings run
- A hearing is always chaired by an Employment Judge, who sometimes sits with two non-legal members.
- A hearing can be in person, by video or by telephone, or a mix of these. If you are weighing up the options, see our guide to a remote or in-person hearing.
- If fewer cases settle than expected, a hearing may be changed to video, shortened or postponed.
Current waiting times
The Employment Tribunals President's waiting-time figures cover England and Wales only. There are no official published figures for Scotland, so we do not give any. Your hearing date will be on your notice.
Before your hearing: a checklist
- Before you claim at all, start Acas early conciliation. It is needed for almost all claims.
- Follow every order the tribunal has sent you and keep to its dates.
- Put your documents in one page-numbered, indexed bundle, and bring your own copies.
- If you are presenting the case yourself, read our guide to representing yourself.
- Contact the tribunal in advance if you have any access needs or need a hearing loop.
- Check the night before whether your hearing has been changed to video.
