What to expect on the day
While the building is closed
- Read your hearing notice and any later emails carefully. Your hearing may be moved to another venue or changed to video.
- If you are not sure where to go, contact the tribunal at eastlondon@justice.gov.uk or on 0300 323 0196.
- Do not go to Stratford. GOV.UK lists no employment tribunal there.
- If a change makes it hard for you to attend, you can ask the tribunal for a change. See our guide to asking to postpone a hearing.
At this building (when open)
- Portable induction loops are available.
- Private interview rooms are available.
- Video conference facilities are available.
- Assistance dogs are welcome. Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyards are available on request.
- The building is shared with the benefits tribunal (Social Security and Child Support) and the Asylum Support tribunal.
True of every employment tribunal
- Arrive 30 minutes before the time on your hearing letter. Do not arrive much earlier, as you may be turned away at busy times.
- If you need support, bring only one person, such as a friend or family member.
- You will go through a security arch or a hand-held scanner, and your bags will be checked. Tell security staff if you have a medical implant such as a pacemaker.
- Turn your phone off before you go into the hearing room. Taking photos or video of a hearing is a criminal offence. You can use a laptop or tablet, but there may be nowhere to charge it.
- A hearing can be changed to video at short notice, or you may be asked to wait at the venue until a room and a judge are free (this is called “floating”).
Our hearing day guide walks through the day itself.

While you wait: current waiting times
The Employment Tribunals President publishes waiting-time figures in the minutes of the National User Group. As at the end of March 2026: (before the building closed)
- London East could still hear 1-day hearings in the first half of 2026.
- Hearings of around 5 days: London East could list these in 2027.
- Hearings of more than 10 days: London East could list these in 2026-27.
These figures date from before the building closed and may have changed. Your own hearing date will be on your notice. If your hearing has moved to video, our guide to a remote or in-person hearing explains the difference.
Before your hearing: a checklist
- Follow every order the tribunal has sent you and keep to its dates. If you need more time, ask the tribunal and give your reason.
- Make sure the documents are in one page-numbered, indexed bundle. See our guide to how to prepare your tribunal bundle.
- Exchange witness statements by the date ordered. See our witness statement guide.
- Check your witnesses can attend. Making sure they do is your job.
- Print your own copies. The tribunal will not photocopy documents for you.
- Pack your hearing letter with the case number, your papers, water and something to eat.
- If you need reasonable adjustments, ask for them before the day.
- Check the night before whether your hearing has been changed to video.
- Check the venue on your latest notice. Do not assume it is Clove Crescent, and do not go to Stratford.
- If you have not been told where to go, email the tribunal a few days before your hearing to confirm the venue.
