Which court will hear my small claim in London?

If the claim is defended, the defendant is an individual and you are claiming a fixed sum of money, it is normally sent to the defendant’s home court. Other claims usually go to the claimant’s preferred hearing centre. If there is a good reason for the hearing to be somewhere else, say so on the directions questionnaire.

What happened to the County Court Money Claims Centre?

In 2023 it merged with the County Court Business Centre and became the Civil National Business Centre (CNBC), based in Northampton. It processes money claims centrally. It does not hold hearings: a defended claim is sent on to a local hearing centre.

Can I use a no win no fee solicitor for a small claim?

Legal costs are mostly not recoverable on the small claims track (CPR 27.14), so any lawyer’s fee usually comes out of your own pocket or your compensation. That is why most people bring small claims themselves.

How much does it cost to take someone to small claims court in London?

The same as anywhere in England and Wales. The issue fee depends on how much you claim (see the fee table on this page), and if the claim goes to a hearing the claimant usually pays a hearing fee as well. If you win, the court normally orders the other side to repay your court fees.
